Active Optical Access

Why Choose Active Optical Access from Edgecore Networks

In most cases, the AON structure is advantageous for setting up access networks, as there is a managed direct point-to-point connection up to the handover point at the customer’s premises (regardless of whether it is a private or business customer). This not only increases safety, but also enables simpler and faster fault clearance – and thus a high and efficient service quality.

Our favorite solution is based on the Access L2+ switches from the manufacturer Edgecore Networks. Thanks to the extensive product range, the devices can be flexibly adapted to different requirements. All switches offer a nearly identical Layer 2 feature set (e.g., VLANs, QoS, IGMP snooping) and leverage a Cisco-like CLI syntax, which makes integration easier. Some models also optionally support basic Layer 3 functions such as static routing or RIP, which creates additional flexibility in mesh design.

The product line ranges from business CPE to access and aggregation switches to high-performance 100GE routing switches for the transport sector – ideal for municipal utilities, carriers and municipal operators looking for scalable, disaggregatable and cost-effective solutions.

Some features:

  • Standardized L2 Ethernet technology for maximum interoperability

  • DHCP Option 82 and PPPoE Intermediate Agent for Network Transfer Points
